Who we are

Officially, Kenwood PTA is our school’s chapter of the National PTA—the oldest and largest child advocacy association in the US.

Informally, this is a network, not a club. Your voice matters, so whether you join the board, volunteer, or just share a suggestion—you belong.

PTA leadership should represent our diverse community, and we’re not there yet. For now, our current board members are available below. More details (and photos) coming soon!

What we do

Community

Our PTA organizes free events to connect families and projects to support student wellbeing.

  • Back-to-school events, Fall Family Festival, Kenwood Crawl, curriculum night, Woodchuck Walk, winter sledding parties, Spring picnic, Kindergarten and 5th grade graduations.

  • Outdoor lunches and vaccine clinics during COVID

  • Teacher appreciation, classroom supplies, and lunchroom volunteers

Arts

Our PTA supports a diverse range of all-school and all-grade arts programs generated by teachers.

  • Professional artist residencies include contemporary Native American arts, African drumming, Taiko drumming, world dance, and photography

  • Other programs include Art Adventure with MIA, Children’s Theater, Midwest Food Connections, MN Center for Book Arts field trips, and school plays

Fundraising

PTA fundraising is separate from community events and ongoing through the school year.

  • Spirit wear sales, Dining for Dollars partnerships with local restaurants, book fair, plant sale, Read-a-thon, and annual Give to the Max campaign

  • Donation drives are organized around specific needs like winter gear for outdoor recess and supplies for our school social worker and gym teacher.

Ideas? Concerns? Click above to email us directly, or even better—stop by a meeting! Meetings are open to all Kenwood parents and guardians and take place at Kenwood in the Media Center on the first Thursday of each month from 6–7:30 pm.

Volunteer

We always need volunteers to help with events, teacher appreciation, in the lunchroom, and more. If you can share some time—just for one event or ongoing through the year—click above to contact volunteer chairs, Bridgitte Hobson and Meg Montgomery.

Lead

Our board is made up of Kenwood caregivers (parents, guardians) who commit to chairing a specific initiative or volunteering at multiple events. The board meets monthly (in person/virtual) and collaborates between meetings on Slack. If you are interested or just want to know more, click above to let us know!
